TEXT MODE ART comes in many
     shapes and forms.

This site is primary focused on a
     few different styles originating
from the BBS era of dial-up
modems when the art was used for
     logos, system design, and to
     promote your BBS.

     °º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸

The idea itself, to make art from
text, can be traced way back and
the closest to text mode art on
a computer was the art generated
     on typewriters.
The 'artforms' we dive into here
     originated from Unix systems and
     the 'old school' art is
     originally made from the
     characters available when we only
had a few characters to choose
from and the computer had a 7 bit
     character sets.

     /\-.,+

     This turned into oldschool art.
As we got more charaters and more
     systems the 'art scene' got
divided up between the PC ascii
art scene and Amiga ascii art
scene (with the exception of a
     few enthusiasts doing text mode
     art on Commendore systems called
     PETSCII and on Atari computers
     called ATASCII).

When the PC got support for a 8
     bit character set the style
     transitioned into an old school
form with more characters and the
so called new school ascii art
     using all available characters to
     get better shapes.
In parallell we had the ANSi
scene, and the one color version
of this I call NFO art, where you
     utilised block characters like ░
     ▒ █ ▓ ▄ ▀ in the extended
character set to draw in 16
     colors (8 background colors and
     16 foreground colors)
Here you'll find art and resources to
explore if you like to learn some
more about the old text mode art
     scene originating from when the
     Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) had
     their prime and communication
     equaled IRC.

I do not have anything to do with
the art scene today, yes it's
still active, and havent had 20+
years. But, I do however look at
some art now and then, and try to
sneak in some ascii art in
     documentation and source code at
     work to educate the younger
     generation... ;)
